How to create color and mesh variation of actors

Hello…
I am looking to create variations in assets or npcs.
Basically variation in colour and , skeletal mesh and additional meshes

For example a static asset like a bowl or a chair that just assigns different colours when placed in the world. I am planning to have little insect npcs that wander about, again colour variation but also additions like hats, spikes etc… any ideas how to do this type of thing?
