How to create a diffusion panel for real world video/photo lighting?

I’m a video and photo shooter and am looking to simulate diffusion panels in UE 4.27. For those of you that don’t know a diffusion panel is basically a translucent material (think shower curtain or thin sheet or plastic) stretched over a frame that goes between a light source and the subject. It does 2 major things…diffuse the light and create a larger light source which allows for softer lighting and shadows.
I’m using dynamic lighting only, no ray tracing and working with spotlights. The lighting setup works well with the exception of realistic diffusion so I was hoping a diffusion panel such as I use constantly in the real world could be created in UE4.27.
Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated as I’ve spent many days on here and the web searching for such a process with no success.
