How to create a cutscene with apex cloth simulation in matinee

Hi everyone.

i’m khafez, and i figure out to record a cutscene with apex cloth simulated with matinee.

or just idee to record my cutscene with apex cloth simulated.

1/ i’ve import my mesh and animation inside ue4.

2/ i’ve simulate my cloth using NVidia Apex cloth

3/ i’ve put together mesh, animation and apex cloth in UE4. that’s work perfectly unreal animation with cloth simulation.

4/i create a cutscene inside matinee. the cutscene work but here is my problem.

  • I don’t know how to activate the apex cloth simulation inside matinee.
  • is there a way to do that?
  • So i try to use blueprint and play my matinee cutscene directly in my PIE: So the cutscene play with cloth simulation inside PIE. the new problem is that i don’t kwon how to record my cutscene.
  • so if matinee can’t record “simulated cloth” how can i record my PIE in matinee or something else but with a correct resolution because i don’t want to use FRAPS.

thank’s a lot

cheers

khafez

Hey khafezrightclicker,

I ran some tests yesterday just to make sure matinee could record cloth simulation. I was able to record a simply flag waving in the wind, and I will show you how I was able to do so. In your active perspective viewport click on your ‘Matinee’ actor which has the cinematic you wish to record.

Within the ‘Details’ panel you can check the ‘Play on Level Load’ which will kick off your cinematic as soon as you hit PIE. Use this checkbox in conjunction with the ‘Create a Movie’ option within your matinee actor to record your cinematic as intended.

Use the images below as reference on where to find the option within your Matinee actor, as well as the additional options when you open the window for recording.

Here you are given options on how you would like to render out your cinematic. One thing to keep in mind when the cinematic is complete, is you will be returned to your player character, or the default player start location and the matinee will still be recording. Simply bring up the console command at this point and type quit, which will exit PIE.

Let me know if you still need help or if the suggestions resolved your issue.

Cheers,

Hi guys im trying to make a flag it works well when i press Play but when i record a Matenee with a camera nd try to output a video … it shows that the flag freezes nd didn’t moves !!
plz helpalt text

Hello ousaz,

It appears the one flag attached to the pole is animating correctly, but the one standing alone is not. Are you using a different asset for each flag? Double check to make sure the settings within the details panel as well as the asset itself are the same as the other flag.

Also, in order for me to test this on my end, could you provide me with the version of the engine you are working with, and some simple screenshots of the asset’s details panel and the settings for the asset itself?

Thank you,

thanks for the reply, the one which is attached with the pole is a static mesh i just simulated it with 3ds max as a cloth it didn’t moves, but the other one is the flag with the apex cloth i tried to make a new project ,imported the flag then make a Matenne nd it worked and i got an output video with the moving flag but in my main project i still got the same problem i think that i ll copy the hole scene to a new project and by the way im using 4.7 thanks
