How to control visibility BEHIND semi-transparent material

How do I control the distance by which a semi-transparent material allows me to see what’s behind it? In the image below, I have this water material set on a water plane. I am sitting on a beach, there’s two small islands in the distance and a underwater chasm between them.

How do I configure the water material to only allow me to see through it, say, 5,000 Unreal units behind the material? So that chasm in the distance is not visible, but the sand a bit underwater is.

Hello xrattus!

In order to change the depth of the water an how much you can see behind it, you can use the following nodes shown in the picture to define the the depth of the water plane!

Hope this helps!
