I have a few questions about TM Library management (updates, backups, centralize, etc).
We always need to have different TM versions running for different projects at different stages. The "Resource Collector" is already helping to smooth out the workflow, but this only works on a project by project basis.
1. Is possible to consolidate TM Libraries in one centralized folder (ie. on a server) for all TM versions?
UserLibrary
TwinmotionCloudLibrary
QuixelCloudLibrary
2. Are these Libraries transferable between TM versions?
3. What are the best practices to manage & maintain office Standards & Templates & Libraries?
4. What is the best practice to backup TM projects?
5. What is the best practice to backup TM Resources / setup?
I guess I am not the only person with this question, but I can not get any info on this in the Forum / Support guides / even YouTube.
It would be absolutely great for productivity, consistency & workflow management if these things could be easier to manage in a centralized way.
Thank you for posting in the community and this might be a limitation as cloud assets are not typically shared from one workstation to another since each workstation references files.
Having many users try to read and write to the same database is most likely going to cause issues. The same thing is true if you have 2 instances of Twinmotion open and downloading assets from both of them at the same time.
However the user library is more of a likely candidate to be shared on a network drive, while you might experience some issues it will work better. Make sure to have a back-up system in place so you can restore any user library.
Also consider just using the network as the back-up for the user library so, that people can copy on their local machine only what they need. Then add new objects to the network folder as needed and you can organize them by TM version folders so you can keep track what version the objects were created in.
With Twinmotion 2023.1 it is recommended to update and save all old user library parts from before 2022.2.3 to the current version as there were major changes that could cause issues when opening older files or loading old library/objects.
I recommend you make a suggestion on the road-map to support network library folders for cloud libraries and improve user library.
