I downloaded the animation starter pack from the marketplace, and wanted to use it with another character downloaded there (military style female character), but the new animations don’t show up in the asset browser when making an animation blueprint, or blendspace:
I’m assuming that’s because the animations use the ue4 mannequin skeleton, but I can’t change the skeleton in the animations.
I tried retargeting, but it doesn’t seem to work properly, here’s what I get:
I get a warning on the retargeter saying that “the source retarget root bone is very near the ground plane. this will cause the target to be moved very far. to resolve this, please create a retarget pose with the retarget root at the correct height off the ground.” but I don’t know how to do that, or if it will fix this problem. I also don’t know what to do with the IKRetargeter thing, those downloaded animations still won’t show up in the asset browser.
The error you are getting needs you to adjust the pose in your retargeter. Could you share your IK rig retargeter settings? Also, did you create your own IK rigs or did they come with the characters?
Any additional specifics you provide may go a long way in solving your problem.
The retargeter is all fine, chains have the same names and proper bones assigned to them in the IK rigs, as I saw in many tutorials. One of them said I had to use the pelvis bones as root retargets, it had the same issue as I have but it worked for them, not for me, at least not at first.
So I don’t know what exactly I did, I just deleted the IK retargeter and created it again, selected both ik rigs and didn’t change anything since the chain names were already the same, and all of a sudden it worked properly.
So yeah, thanks anyway, I’ll marked this as solved!
I know you already got it working, but I think this info could still help you or someone else in the future
Since you solved it by creating a new IKRetargeter, it’s possible you had the Root retarget phase turned off by accident. You can toggle that on and off with these buttons in the top right of the IKRetargeter
Based on the warning you got, it’s possible you set the wrong retarget root (you should use pelvis on both rigs usually).
As for the animations not showing up, you need to make sure the source IK Rig and target IK Rig are in their proper slots in the IKRetargeter. If the target rig (the one with no animations) is placed in the source rig slot, there won’t be any animations showing up in the browser.
