How to add a keyboard shortcut to a custom menu item?

How can I add a keyboard shortcut for my script which I have added to a custom menu, in the upper menu bar? ie. The default Menu-bar items are: File, Edit, Window, and Help. I have added a menu-bar item called “Custom”, and put my script in there called “myScript”. I would now like to add a keyboard shortcut to it, but don’t know how. Thanks in advance!
