I wanna make a feathered dinosaur and import it into UE5. I’ve made other creatures but they were all featherless/hairless. I know next to nothing about furr aside from buzzwords like shell and card. Some references:
Hey there @Mr_AKIMBO! So in my opinion, depending on the fidelity of your game and how detailed you want the the fur. If you’re going for render quality, then this video goes over how Weta did the “Meerkat” cinematic:
However if you were intending it to be more realtime, I’d usually recommend hair cards for feathers, as full grooms in realtime can be quite performance heavy.

No worries! The groom system is capable of realtime use cases however, so if you have some performance overhead and can afford it, you can get some really good looking realtime fur and feathers. I forgot to mention the whitepaper from the Meerkat project is rather useful in that case.
