How much better is it to buy a PC instead of a MAC to use Twinmotion? (SKETCUHP 3D Renders) considering that I was always a Mac user.
There are a couple of disadvantages of running TM on a mac: you can't use pathtracer and 3d connexion devices don't work. So if you are okay without these two, the M-Pro or M-Max chips will be fine. If you are doing detailed / complicated projects then you might need a dedicated graphics card, which you can only get on a PC. The lack of Pathtracing on the Mac is quite a big disadvantage - so you will have to weigh your decision accordingly.
I personally use a M1 Pro laptop and can run most projects in TM with acceptable FPS. I use a remote PC for pathtracing though, and I wouldnt wan't to use just a Mac for renders if I didnt have that option. Depends a lot on your projects / desired level of quality.
You should be fine with the raster renders (method used when the pathracer is off). Here's a comparison of PT and Raster - it's exteriors so maybe not very relevant to your works, but it should give you an idea of the difference.

PT OFF: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/k4x9qtxog0qeenk53mhho/h?dl=0&rlkey=ew2k9uzl7ysam6ne674bwbwc4
Thanks for the time spent on the graphical answer. It's true that it's enough without Path Trace on and I could get by with a new Mac. But it's much better with PT on. I can imagine more difference in interiors with a light design with lamps on.
It's not clear to me if the latest Imac models support Twinmotion on everything except enabling Path trace..
It is very difficult to understand on Mac what is processor and graphics card. Whether they are kind to the Twinmotion or not.

Yes thats true, once you start adding interior lighting, PT will become more important.
You can run TM on the latest iMacs however the iMacs are not that great for working in 3d. I would recommend you to look into getting a Mac mini and buying a monitor. https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/mac-mini
The highest configuration of the Mac mini has 10 CPU units and 16 GPU. The amount of GPU units will is the one factor that TM cares about the most. I currently work on a Macbook Pro that has the same amount of CPU and GPU with the above mentioned Mini, and I can run most projects in an acceptable speed. You can take a look at this video to see how the performance is: https://capture.dropbox.com/N7xA6vXEBc0Xewbo
**edit ** for anyone wondering the performance on M2 Max & TM 2023.1.2: https://capture.dropbox.com/WQHc017HWI5RJxEv
thank you! I value your answers.
Hello,
Emre gave very good explanation. The biggest difference between the Mac and PC versions of Twinmotion is that the Mac version does not have support for some features, like VR, Path Tracer, and 3d Connexion devices (although this will be coming soon). If you value Path Tracer or VR, then PC will be the best option, as bringing these features to Mac is currently limited by factors beyond our control. Otherwise, Mac is still a solid choice to work with.
Just be aware that machines using Apple Silicon (M-series processors) are not natively supported yet, so while they work, they may be prone to issues until we are able to release official support in a future update (we do not yet have an estimated timeframe for when this will be ready). The Twinmotion 2023.2.3 build is currently the most stable version for these devices.
Best,
Raghib
I prefer working on my Mac running 2023.1.1, but I also have a Dell desktop available to me. Should I be able to set up the project on the Mac, then do final exports to enable ray-tracing on the PC?
Hey Jeff, definitely possible. You will have to set up the PT render settings on your Windows machine, but other than that you can set up everything on the Mac, open your TM file from windows and render. Keep in mind that your textures should be at a shared location (server, dropbox, etc).
