I am curious if you experience the same/similar here: Rendering with Path Tracer is 140x slower than without?
When I export a video clip of 10 Sec it takes me around 3 Min. If I turn on Path Tracer (LQ) with refinement = off the system says it will take 7 hrs. That is like 140x slower.
My Win10 machine runs an older i7-8700k with 64GB Ram on SSD with 8GB Nvidia 1070. Using TM 2022.1.2 and it runs like a charm in edit mode. During rendering my CPU and SSD are nearly idle. 3D GPU goes up and down while it utilizes all RAM.
I know that each system is different and depending on your scene you want to render it takes shorter or longer. My attention however is more if I have to face reality that indeed it takes more than 100x times longer with PT enabled. I guess not. I have been following other discussions here covering crashes and slow exprot speeds as well with no luck so far for my case.
I have the same experience. When exporting a 30 seconds clip in HD on 30 fps, with path tracing, it takes 4+ hours to export. Withut path tracing less than 10 minutes. I am using a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 with a Intel Xeon W2245 with 128GB RAM. I do export without refinement on medium (64) setting
Thank you for posting in the community regarding expectation with Path Tracer render times. In general the Path Tracer will take more time than the Raster Engine as it calculates light and shadows more accurately.
When rendering one movie of 10 seconds with 30 FPS it should not take 4-7hrs and there could be something in the scene taking a longer time to generate. Keep in mind the estimated time is not always as accurate as it could be especially at the beginning of the rendering total time.
If you export the video as PNG images instead of mpg you can find out how long each frame takes to export. This helps identify where there could be an issue as well. Found under the Export, Video settings (More menu).
