how hard it is to get licensed as a developer by Sony/Microsoft ?

Hi,

we’ve been through the process with AIPD and this is how you start:

  1. Fill out this form and submit it to Microsoft, fill out this form and submit it to Sony.
  2. If they reject you or don’t answer, be persistent and follow up to their mails. If this does not help I would recommend to browse your linkedin contacts until you find someone with a direct contact to an SCEE, SCEA or Microsoft employee. Either ask your contact to introduce you or yolo-add him/her and refer to your shared contact.
  3. If you get accepted, don’t freak out because of the huge information and requirement overload for your game, it’s a very complex undertaking to release on a console. You won’t be able to know what you are supposed to do in which step. Don’t hesitate to write Sony and Microsoft private support requests, but make sure you did basic research in their documentation.
  4. Get access to the Unreal Engine PS4 and Xbox One private forums. I can’t remember how you kick this off, but it’s not a big deal after you got accepted by Sony and Microsoft.

Becoming a certified self-publishing developer is a rather long process. You have to send them loads of documents, sign NDA’s, agreements, contracts, etc. Development hardware can also be very costly. Good luck.

Cheers,
Sascha
