how hard it is to get licensed as a developer by Sony/Microsoft ?

Hi
since we started moving our game from concept art to actual development we’re right now developing for pc only and hope once we actually create something (an actual demo/gameplay) we get noticed we might be able to obtain a PlayStation license “hopefully” we will post what we’re creating soon i’d say about a month or littil more we will post our project here :stuck_out_tongue: hopefully
what i’m thinking is building a system with a 4th gen i3 and a gtx 750ti with 8gb of ram to be our target of development as minimum specs for pc as a test machine (not for developing) and hopefully it’ll be comparable to a console so the porting will be easy i know i’m being optimistic but hell let me dream lol
hope you guys answer my question i know that there are sections in the forum dedicated to console developers and only licensed devs can access them that’s why i posted it here.

Well, unless something changed, you need to have a publisher in order to become licensed to develop for the Xbox consoles, unless of course you register as an indie developer, which I imagine has many limitations (pricing, etc.), it is sounding like they just want to make sure that you know what you are doing before giving you a license.

You need to either have past work to prove your development team has experience or you need to have a demo that is high quality to show them

@Jamendxman3 & darthviper107 about experience sadly no non of us have had finished any game project before and About quality i will not be interested in the console development if our project doesn’t meet their high quality standards guess we’ll wait until we can post something and you’ll be the judge .

You can submit your game for review and if accepted you can get into talks with Sony or Microsoft for development on their consoles.

The process is pretty straightforward, just contact a Sony and Microsoft rep and they should get you on their way. Our project was well on the way so it made it easier for us to get accepted. Microsoft will consider concepts I believe.

Good Luck!

Yeah its me from UDK forums haha.

Our producer was the one that really took care of the XBOX and Sony stuff however, you should start by signing up at ID@Xbox Independent Developers Program for Xbox One | Xbox

You can start the process there. You will need a company that is established somewhere, I’m not sure how it works outside the US.

You can do the same with Sony. PlayStation® Partners

Make sure you get to know your rep as they will help you through the process after filling out the form.

You need to have a promising game that the consoles will want to see in their line up. Its always easier to get on another console once you have already been accepted to another.

Good luck!

Site is being revamp, but its basically a platformer beat em up adventure. Where the primary goal of the character is to reclaim his throne as the meatking haha.

It will be on all platforms, and have multiplayer online support in the future. Co-Op is the default for now.

I don’t want to derail this thread too much though!

Hi,

we’ve been through the process with AIPD and this is how you start:

  1. Fill out this form and submit it to Microsoft, fill out this form and submit it to Sony.
  2. If they reject you or don’t answer, be persistent and follow up to their mails. If this does not help I would recommend to browse your linkedin contacts until you find someone with a direct contact to an SCEE, SCEA or Microsoft employee. Either ask your contact to introduce you or yolo-add him/her and refer to your shared contact.
  3. If you get accepted, don’t freak out because of the huge information and requirement overload for your game, it’s a very complex undertaking to release on a console. You won’t be able to know what you are supposed to do in which step. Don’t hesitate to write Sony and Microsoft private support requests, but make sure you did basic research in their documentation.
  4. Get access to the Unreal Engine PS4 and Xbox One private forums. I can’t remember how you kick this off, but it’s not a big deal after you got accepted by Sony and Microsoft.

Becoming a certified self-publishing developer is a rather long process. You have to send them loads of documents, sign NDA’s, agreements, contracts, etc. Development hardware can also be very costly. Good luck.

Cheers,
Sascha

@TheAgent thanks for the info hope you great successes with your game

and @saschaw thanks a lot i think we will focus on pc development and hope we get noticed by steam community and go green light and with that might have better chance of getting accepted by the console companies now it’s only a matter of the effort we put on creating something playble out of our concept

Another ‘easy’ way is to go to a conference and meet them in person and explain your situation/why you should be a licensed developer. I know several studios who got through the red tape simply over a beer at a show.

hello,
i know this is kinda late but the Playstation form in not working do you have another Link by any chance
