Im trying to make a small dino able to be tamed by petting it, similar to the way a Hyaenadon is tamed. For the life of me I can find all the functions involved. Any insight from someone would be most appreciated.

I believe that counts as a passive tame, and correct me if I’m wrong but there’s a tick option for that. If you haven’t already tried it you could also look at Hyaenodon or other passive tames’ files, there’s an option in the upper-right corner of the defaults editor to view only the changed variables so you could check that out.
I would also check out Hyaenodon’s Get Multi Use Entries and Try Multi Use functions in the graph editor, as that’s what gives the prompt to pet and executes the related events.
