How does GASP work?

I cant seem to find any consice tutorials explaining GASP and how it functions.

For my game I would like to recreate (and understand) the system behind it, but there’s nothing really showing how to do this. I think I might know why.

While looking at GASP I’ve noticed there are a LOT of animations. For just walking anims there are 224. My question here is, are these all hand crafted?? Are most of these somehow produced from the engine based on other animations?

For my game I want to make all my animations myself, I don’t want to just copy and paste these to my project. but if I wanted to recreate the visual appeal of GASP would I have to had create all these animations?..
