How Do You Fit Clothing To Customizable Characters

Hi! I’m a longtime software engineer first time game dev who’s basically trying to create a detailed character customization system as a tech demo (I know this is really hard as a first project). So far I’m using a Daz3D character base with morphs for face and body customization. I’m still at the stage where I’m implementing things in the order they sound scariest to me to make sure this is possible to do, so I’ve gone from face/body customization to hair to now clothing.

From watching tutorials it seems like the biggest issue is that body dimensions will be unpredictable since things like how large the character is or how muscular they are can change which seems to eliminate most programs I see mentioned in tutorials. One plus to the whole tech demo thing is my end goal is just rendering to still images so something like cloth simulation feels more like a realism nice to have as opposed to a requirement. I saw uDraper when I was looking through tutorials which may work but I kinda hate the subscription model.

Any suggestions for how to fit clothing to differently sized characters in engine?
