How do you create an isometric-style camera? Every method seems to have problems.

I’ve tried to use the orthographic camera but it’s causing problems with my lighting setup, even in 5.3 using ambient cubemaps just does not work with ortho and creates this kind if effect:

However whenever I do the alternative of having a very low FOV perspective camera that’s really far away, the spotlights I’m using to show hazards (it’s a searchlight where if you get caught in it it’s game over) are no longer showing on camera.

What I want is one of two things

1: is there a way I can create an ambient lighting through a level in the style of the ambient cubemap that won’t break on the ortho camera
2: is there a way I can get the searchight to show up on the pseudo-ortho perspective camera?

For some reason trying to get an answer on this is like getting blood out of stone, this is a major sticking point of my current project and I really need an answer.

You maaayyy need to use a different platform because Unreal really is for 3D.

It can do 2.0 and 2.5, but the interface really isn’t built for that.

Hopefully someone can give more insight.

then why even include an ortho camera if it doesn’t work?

It’s experimental as of 5.3:

Needs more work, for sure.

surely there’s gotta be a way to set up ambient lighting in a way that works with the ortho camera… I’ve seen projects do it before.

Then try reaching out to the creators of the project.

Unreal is HUMONGOUS, and they may have found techniques that most people are unaware of… OR they faked it somehow.

why do you think I’ve been asking on here? Surely someone here has to know.

I just either get ignored or a shrug of the shoulders and nobody is helpful at all.

You’re being curt and unreasonable expecting strangers to anticipate your needs.

I wish you the best of luck. Truly.

I’m being curt because of the sheer frustration of spending about a week asking the same question to every location with relevance and just either being ignored or being given the least helpful answers imaginable.
