In version 5.7, the “Translucent” option is no longer available for materials. Instead, there are a few new terms. Unfortunately, none of them seem to be able to mask the material with a grayscale or black-and-white texture. Even the “Masked” mode no longer works. Question: How can I now mask a material with a luminance texture?
Hi, in UE 5.7, Substrate material is enabled by default. You can click the link to see the official documentation.
- Translucent becomes Translucent Grey Transmittance
- Thin Translucent becomes Translucent Colored Transmittance
If you don’t link anything to “Front Material”, you can still use legacy Opacity Mask or Opacity Override.
If you use Substrate Slab for translucent materials, you can mask it with “Coverage Weight”
Substrate also provides more functionality than legacy material. You may use SSS MFP for advanced translucency. The official documentation has some examples inside.
