How do I rotate landscape material

Hi,

I am creating a beach and I have a rippled sand material in my landscape material. However, I want to rotate that particular material to always be rotated toward the water (or rather the core of the island).

I thought the alpha brush or pattern brush would do that, but it does not seem to rotate the material but only the brush.

Is there a way without having like 5 different landscape material layers?

The landscape has UV just like any other material. I’m guessing you can rotate it there…

Thank you! But would that not require me to have a bunch of materials cluttering up my landscape layers for every rotation I need? I need a different rotation for every angle the water hits the island.

I could be wrong, but I think if the ripples are in the normal of your material, you have to rotate the material.

So basically I have to create 4 to 8 materials with different rotations to account for all angles and to be able to paint them afterwards?

Is there any completely different way to go at this?

That’s a last resort ( get it?! )

You might be able to do something with distance fields, or RVT.

You know all these tutorials about blending object with the terrain? If you had an object ( set hidden ) under the edge of the water actor, you could use that blend area to use a texture / normal aligned with the water edge?..

I will try the distance field method, sounds interesting. And it seems to be used for ripples in water too.

Not sure I saw a tutorial of what you referred to – could you link one?

Thanks a lot!

It may not be much use…
