This seems simple enough but every tutorial out there only shows how to edit animations for actions done in one place. How do I move a model in the animation editor so that a character, for example, can be made to leap forward? There’s a transform function but I only know how to select bones. How do I select the entire mesh so that I can move it along the x or y axis?
Moving root bone should move your entire character. If you want your character to leap forward, you should create standalone animation in 3d software like blender
