How would I go about making a temporary crater like the ones seen in Dragon Ball Xenoverse, which happens to be a Unreal Engine game? Like, it spawns, overlays the 3D hole, and then just disappears.
The craters in Xenoverse do not appear to me to be 3d. They seem to be decals that use a bump offset to fake 3d.
I believe the “Showdown VR Demo” project (available for free through Marketplace) makes use of decals and bump offset to fake 3D bullet pock marks and missile craters. You might download that and examine it. Or read this guide on how to use the BumpOffset node (also known as Parallax Mapping):
Thanks! I’ll look into that.
