How do I lock / unlock keyframes in the sequencer? (Red outline in the Sequencer)

I have somehow locked a number of keyframes in my animation and they are marked with a red outline in the Sequencer. I can’t edit my animation on those keyframes anymore as any edits on the rig get reverted. This outline doesn’t seem to be mentioned in Sequencer’s documentation, so I don’t know how to turn this lock off.

I found a workaround that solves the problem, although I still have no idea what that red outline is supposed to be - you can get rid of it and the lock by simply copying the affected keyframes, deleting them and pasting them back in.

You can also lock a keyframe by pressing the Middle Mouse Button on it in the sequencer, and it will generate the red outline.

Sorry about that confusion. The red outline indicates that there is more than 1 keyframe at that time (technically, more than 1 keyframe mapping to that pixel that the keyframe is on). It can happen if you simply drag a keyframe on top of another. In a future release, we’re attempting to remove this functionality. Or, at least, change it so that you can move a keyframe on top of another and past another keyframe, but if you deselect the keyframe when it is on top of another, it will delete the other keyframe.

When you middle mouse button on a keyframe, it creates a duplicate keyframe with a time that is slightly ahead of it, so that’s what is happening there (it’s overlapping)

I appreciate the fast response, thanks.

Why isn’t this documented though? I wasn’t able to find anything mentioning this and the article on Sequencer shortcuts definitely doesn’t mention this, so it’s apparently a hidden feature that can cause trouble.

I can pass the note along to our documentation team. It’s not really a feature, it’s more of a display/indicator of keys that are close to each other. Perhaps adding it here would be good:
