How do I have my enemy character turn to face the player by moving his feet, rather than just turning on z-axis?

Right now when I tell my AI character to face the player, he doesn’t move his feet, but spins like he’s on a lazy-susan or standing on a desk chair. How do I make him make steps with his feet as he turns to face the player? Thanks.
