How do i edit an existing animation and make one aspect of it not move?

I imported a simple jog animation, but i want to make just my right arm stay out the front for the whole animation, without movement. When i add a keyframe at the start of the animation on where i want my arm, it does that at the start but moves around during the animation. How do i make it so i doesn’t move at all?

I think you did an extra step. All you need to do is just adding a track for the bone you want to edit, and transforming it as you wish from the viewport and it will stay like that. When you add keys however, you make the bone transition into your new placement within a set timespan.

Though if the reason you want one arm to behave differently than the rest is to give it functionality, you can achieve that using control rigs

I also have a common question like you and hope to get everyone’s help.

hello, i have played around with it for the last couple days and tried to add tracks to the bones. But although i add tracks, the arm still moves up and down for some reason. The original animation is a guy running forwards with his arms swinging. All I want to do is have his left hand held out infront of him still for the whole animation. When i add tracks to the bones i want to not move, it still moves.

i cannot upload a short clip, but basically i downloaded a jog forward animation from mixamo and all i want to do is keep the left hand out infront of his body, still for the whole animation so he can hold a pistol
also there is a video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeVQ4VU7cKc that tells me basically how to edit it but i don’t want it to move like in the video

Welcome back! First of all, I appreciate your effort on troubleshooting for a couple days yourself. That’s how you actually learn pretty much anything.

Now, since you’ve clarified your objective, I must suggest other methods. Editing existing animations you got online to fit in your use case is not the way to do it. Like I said before, if it was dynamic part of the body that’d get affected by various factors, you could use control rigs. But if you want a natural animation of a character runnning while holding a weapon, you would need to get a complete animation of it. You can make your own from a 3D editor like Blender but I think you should be able to find one you like from mixamo just like how you found your current animation there.

If you’ll be content with just a fixed arm, you can do it using sequences and control rigs because even though you can change the transformation of the bone, you can’t edit the actual animation like that. Though I don’t recommend it as it would be much practical to do it using a 3D editor.

I hope I was able to clear up some of your confusion :innocent:

You can use the curve editor in the animation feature in unreal, to target a specific bones movement per keyframe and adjust it according to your needs

fair enough thank you for the clarification, I was able to find the animations. Thanks a lot for your help
