How do I download assets from Marketplace with engine built from source?

I built UE5 from source and I want to add some assets from Epic Games Marketplace to one of my projects. However the Epic Games Launcher does list the projects I have created. How do I add the assets to my projects?

Any help appreciated

Hey @Bridgeman92! Welcome to the forums!

Can I ask what operating system you’re using? On Linux, for instance, I’d recommend Lutrix to enable the ability to import from the marketplace. (A personal opinion, not an official stance of UE or Epic Games.)

Hey!

I am using Windows 10.

So this tutorial includes information on how to install additional plugins.

This MAY be able to help. Also if you’re feeling froggy… maybe try making a backup of your source build and installing that version (through the launcher) at the exact directory… It might just accept it as already installed and link it up.

Alrighty, I´ll give it a try. Thanks!

Kind of strange the games launcher doesnt let you search for project files in other directories, or just let you download the assets, should solve the whole thing I figure.

The post was not what I was looking for unfortunately, but I´ll try the other method as well.

So far it seems the only way to do it is to install the engine through the editor, download the files and then copy them and uninstall the editor again xD Unless the files have some protection to stop this. But of course this method would not be very convenient even if it works.

They don’t have anything to stop that. Would you like the documentation on Migration?
To be honest, what I usually do is have a dummy project, then pick and choose what I want from that, and migrate my selections. Keeps the main project bloat down

Thank you, but I acutally got some help from a friend of mine to fix my problem!

Basically these are the steps:
0. Make sure the game launcher is not running

  1. Navigate to C:\Users[UserName]\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved\Config
    \Windows
  2. Open GameUserSettings
  3. Add a line under [Launcher] like so CreatedProjectPaths=G:/Parent folder of your project

Now after starting the game launcher again the projects shows up if I click “all projects”, and I can add the assets to it.

Ah! Glad you got it figured out, especially since I misunderstood. I thought you meant your source built ENGINE wasn’t being recognized by the marketplace. My apologies!

I added the line to GameUserSettings but it did not work for me.

Epic Games Launcher
15.19.1-30419890+++Portal+Release+Next

This is what I have started doing.

Make sure you fully exit out of Launcher. Meaning, click on the icon in your system tray and click on exit as if you just close the UI, it is still running in the background and will overwrite your changes.
