In UDK, we had to use a Bink video for a load menu to transition between maps. Will we still have to use bink? Or can we get some kind of in-between blueprinting that handles load screens, and other various loading tasks between maps? And also, could we use different types of maps based on our own customizations, instead of that randomization business that usually happened in UDK?
Never heard back regarding this; probably got lost in the commotion :). So I’m bumping it again.
Will the map loading mechanism be akin to what it was in UDK, where we had bink videos? Or will we have some sort of special “load menu” blueprinting? Or does slate have special functionality for UI that will not be a part of any existing level maps?
We have a design for loading screens, and we realize that many Rocket users won’t want to make rendered movies (Bink, .mp4, etc). We have some ideas for having Slate be able to render loading screens. It somewhat depends on how you are loading your level (a blocking “open” style load vs streaming load, etc). However, we don’t have this feature yet.
But, no, the idea is to not require .mp4 style movies (but allow for them)

What about Oculus support? In the rift, a loading screen has to have head tracking or else you will get sick, or we’ll have to just fade to black for a long time which may not be acceptable to users. For the moment I suppose we can stream transitions, but there could definitely be use cases for the blocking style open loads.
