How do I create a texture without overwriting an imported object's UV map?

I’m trying this workflow:

 

Create model in RC

Retopo in Instant Meshes

Create UV map in Maya

Import to RC

Generate Texture 

 

At the last step, RC will overwrite the UV map I made in Maya, and I can’t figure out why. It’s not asking me if I want to keep the model’s UV. What am I missing?
