How can i recreate this smoke from Ghost Of Tsushima?

so I’m in love with ghost of tsushima, and ive always loved these giant black smoke clouds that you can see from far away, and i was wondering how can i go about making this?

a pre-made texture and some creative UV manipulation is all you need really. I wouldn’t even bother with Niagara on it really.

Alternatively Fluid Ninja can do realistic simulations I guess.

Yeah thats what i kinda figured? but i still can’t figure out how the smoke curves and how to make the smoke in general. To me it just seems like a flat texture so i know it isn’t volumetric or really uses any particles. but i could be entirely wrong.

The mesh is curved, or the mesh gets curved with WPO.

I seriously doubt it was volumentric, the cost of rendering would be astronomical.

Simply an alpha PNG will automatically adjust the light that passes through it if you set it in the right material shading model.

Those smoke clouds are really iconic! In Unreal Engine, you might want to experiment with Niagara particle systems and volumetric fog to get that distant, dense look. Tweaking particle size, opacity, and motion over distance can help you capture the same dramatic effect.
