How can I make tunnel landscape?

Hello everyone!

How can I create vertical landscape?
I want to create something like that:

This is very nice.
I’m trying create, but I think it is not so simple.

I’m beginner… so any advice how possible it?
Thanks.

You will have to do such stuff with a combination of meshes and the landscape.
e.g to create a cave:

  1. add a landscape + use the “visibility tool” to cut a hole into the terrain
  2. now place meshes around the hole so that it looks like an actual entrance of a cave
  3. now just build a cave with your meshes

So far there is a guy in limbo deciding what to do with his voxel bluprint. I spoke to him about putting it on the marketplace or make it free so others can learn from his genious.

I been tellin everyone to write this guy.

Lookin back at this video you can make like basic mazes type but make your rock walls etc via mesh like said.

I think the tunnel in question in the video is not necessarily landscape, it is modeling. I had a student doing similar work one time, and I had him build modular architecture for his cave, and then modular cave walls. The cave walls can of course be intersected by the modular architecture, and you would have to treat the modular cave structures like any other modular bits, making some walls have openings, doors, tunnels. Then you essentially build architecture that looks appropriate to that space. Start simple, make a tunnel using modular bits, and texture it, add normal maps to see how it’s all looking. See if you can build it in such a way that beams make spacers between bits every forty feet or something like that. This would give you a breaking point to change directions, and then see what happens.

When you get to a Tee, how does the geometry have to change? What about when you add a door or a new tunnel, or a drop?

One reason to avoid the landscape tool is that it gets expensive to use in game, and I don’t see it being easy to work with in regards to tunnel. You can do the trick where you remove part of the landscape as you enter and exit the tunnel system, but once you’re in the tunnel the landscape above should be turned off, using streaming levels I would keep it separate to save overhead during gameplay.

model things simple at first to test out a system of modular bits, don’t get too complex to start out. You need to explore, test, and try things again.
