How can I cloth simulate a rope holding up a net?

Hi

I made a goal post model in Blender, the net is just subdivided planes, however the edges of the net box, I made as subdivided cylinders (rope). All connected geometry, no duplicate vertices.
I have different material slots for the rope and cloth.
(I modelled first as a net only, but the edges looked poor when using a net material, bad offset, and some issues with displacement).
I would like to simulate a rope holding up the net.
Can I do this with my model? How so?
Or should I have created the model differently?

For my requirements, I need the look that the goal net is hung and tied up to rear posts on hooks.
