How can I avoid Windows 10?

Don’t install it!

Kill it with flamerwerver, it werfs teh flames! Bloom is like </flash> tag was on internets some years ago.

And lens flares we need moar lens flares, of those crappy kind like default in unreal.

Also windows 10, M$ for some reason really wants it to be installed everywhere. Microsoft never did something for free, they have some agenda behind forcing win 10 down our throat. May it be new NSA_Key or something down the lines?

Everyone is complaining about M$'s telemetry in relation to win10 but what you don’t realize it’s been there since Vista. Hell they’ve been stealing your data in XP… Get over it, your privacy has been molested long ago. You should have paid more attention , because now its too late. #UnplugEthernet

The privacy-hype-train is already running hopelessly late. People are sharing their privacy since they are writing their private informations into foreign books. I would like to know why the train hit Windows 10. As SaxonRah said it’s happening since XP or maybe I should say, it’s happening since we have Broadband Internet access. I bet that most people complaining about the commercial abuse of their privacy in Windows 10 have got at least one socialnetwork account, are using Google and buying stuff on Amazon.

While i would agree that there is no comparison between the two, the problem is, privacy was being taken away and people just let it happen, they didn’t care, because it didn’t seem to effect them. so companies encroached more and more. now people see how invasive it’s become and they don’t like it. We should have been outraged even more than we are now, all along. I mean hell today, your samsung TV spies on you just as much as your phone does. It doesn’t make it right, It’s just how life is right now.

Also, america is now an Oligarchy. So good luck getting anything changed as fast as a corporation can write a check.
M$ secrets Google Inc secrets

EDIT : i didnt mean to derail the thread im sorry.

The problem with this kind of comparison is that using Google, or Amazon, or pretty much any other service on the internet, is just that, they are services on the internet that the user makes a choice to use. Unless you’re building your own system, most people don’t, you don’t buy a new PC with anything but Windows installed. The PC OS doing these things is vastly different than choosing to use a service on the internet. Is it Microsoft’s PC or yours?

Why would you want to avoid W10 ? It is ok for me

Fair enough, of course it’s my PC, but when you are using a Microsoft OS you have to agree with Microsofts privacy statement. So its pretty much like an online service where you have to agree that your data is going to be collected. Furthermore Microsoft allows you to disable most of the services which are sending data out to MS. If you are using your PC like you did it a few years ago (word processing, organising documents, consuming local multimedia) you will not share any of theses informations. But if you are using all the services which are included in modern operating systems, you need to know that your data is going to be shared.

And if you’re not using them, or don’t want them, they’re still there. Unless things have changed since I last looked (doubtful, but posssible… it’s been a few months), There were at least two processes (Cortana being one) that refused to be killed, and could not be completely disabled. If it’s truly my PC, I should have the choice. Even disabling the things that can be disabled is no guarantee they will stay that way after some forced update.

More and more games run natively under Linux.
More and more applications can be run online or have non-MS sources.
Sooner or later, one of the many flavours of Linux will be an option everyone can choose to use.

You can compile and run UE Server, Game, Client and the Editor natively in Linux.
The only thing you can’t do is cross-compile content for Windows, but you could always use a virtual machine for that.

So, aside from DX12, why do we run Windows?

You can’t avoid Windows 10 I think is the answer we’re actually hearing. I hear a lot of “well, you can wait” or “maybe someday soon we’ll all adopt Linux… or get mac” The only way to avoid Win 10 is wait until Win 11! YOU CANT WAIT FOREVER…

(Still on Win 7 here… so in case you couldn’t tell, this post was just one giant heap of sarcasm!)

Note that Microsoft has announced that Skylake and newer processors WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED EXCEPT ON WINDOWS 10:
http://www.nationaldailypress.com/2016/01/17/4209/next-generation-processors-including-intels-kaby-lake-wont-be-supported-in-old-windows/

If you are looking to continue using Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (all decent enough OS’s) and want the latest hardware, best to get a Haswell-E 6-core platform and run Windows 7 and 8.1 on that as long as possible.

DO NOT get a Skylake or newer CPU if you don’t want to run Windows 10.

So you’re saying… time to buy MSFT stock?

BINGO. You got it in one. All software in the future will be SUBSCRIPTION-BASED SPYWARE posing as “software”?!!

Beside Linux, there is another OS alternative that is binary compatible with Win32: ReactOS. This OS is free and open source.

is Linux compatible steam and all their games ?
I am more tired of each new Windows release !

since both UE4, CE3/5, Unigine and others(unity keep lagging in that aspect for number of reasons) Engines/SDK - insist on Deprecating/removing DX11 and earlier support, moving to Win10 was become no brainer and only option.newest hardware from both AMD, Intel - become NOT compatible with “older than WIn10” platforms aswell. since “free upgrade to Win10” offering -timeout few days after - i seriously suggest considering that offer/option.so Far - its good platform, despite few deficiencies, gaps in both Win, WDK, DDK, ADK yet, but its quickly evolved and “for good”. basically even next build, aka “Redstone”, wich is ~2moths away from US(“release” version, not testing/beta builds) become kinda cute and more consistent in number of terms/senses.

its in early-development stage and team in still pretty small(even Haiku driven faster along with DragonflyBSD  so serious porting efforts - unlikely/unexpected, yet.i knew bragin for awhile i can’t say he cannot finish it, but its imply Lot more resources(manpower, money, time, whatever)than they got, yet.
