How about a (generous) Bounty System for anything that improves the engine? For all the knitty gritty details like adding an important info to a tooltip, answering a question with technical background, up to anything else.
Bounty can be given by the community, staff members or the bounty squad. This would allow anyone to make a profit by improving the engine on any level.
