Hope (The Barn) - Unreal Engine 5.0.3

Hey everybody!
I was recently inspired to create a scene in Unreal 5 taking advantage of volumetric light and colour in a way that created a rural American vibe. Taking inspiration from the Last of Us Part II’s farm sequence, the yellow/orange glow of the sunset in the air is something that I love and wanted to recreate here.

Music also helped to inform how I created this scene, not just in shot length but also in how the tone of the song shifts. As the music changes, so does the scene; culminating with the most unique section being the final and only static shot.

As a new developer I’ve had very little time to learn process of creating a scene like this. My first environment was a submission for the ‘Better Light than Never’ competition and it took me some time to make. But I learnt from that experience which allowed me to make this in around a week casually working on it. This is significant for me as this scene is much larger in scope than my last and required much more optimisation (being a large open environment, as compared to a small, closed-off, dark cave) due to more intensive lighting and foliage.

Let me know any ways that I can improve! Like I said I’m still learning so any and all critique is welcome

Beautiful work, good high quality.
*It looks no worse than the work of hundreds of employees from Ubisoft on the game Far Cry 5.

Beautifully Bucolic!

I really love the lighting here and the way it filters through the barn! The music makes you long for the simpler things in life - even if you have no idea what that means! LOL! If this is the result of casually working and it only took you a week, then please consider yourself triumphant!

What did you learn from the ‘Better Light than Never’ challenge that assisted you in Hope (The Barn) project?
