Holes in textures after importing model

Hello. I am having an issue when importing a model back into RC.

Here are my steps:

  1. Create model from photos in RC
  2. Export model from RC and re-topo and layout UVs in 3DCoat and 3DS Max
  3. Import model back into RC

If I take the model and retexture it in RC it looks good, but when if I texture in RC and use my custom UVs sets I get the holes. I can notice there is an issue even before texturing in RC. The second image below (black and purple) shows this. I am assuming that it is an issue with my UVs, but I do not know for sure.

Has anyone seen this?

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

We have seen this before, and normally you can make some changes to the model in the 3d software before exporting to fix it, although we have not tested this in all 3d software. Firstly check the normals, and make sure none are flipped. Also try triangulating quads, quad remeshing, or voxel remeshing. If you like we can take a look at your models.

Hi Wallace,

I figured out the issue. It seems to be an issue when importing .FBX format models. I tried a .OBJ and it worked perfectly. I have one more question. Is it required to import my model with the meshes combined? I thought I saw that you can have a multi part model in RC, but I don’t know how to import it like that. When I try it only imports one part of the model.

Thanks,
Shane

Hi Shane,

Yes objs are more consistent in RC import. There is a setting to import a model by parts, you can find it here:
