Role Overview:

We are seeking a versatile and skilled Unreal Engine Mocap Cleanup Artist to refine and clean raw motion capture data on a freelancer basis for a period of 2-3 months.

As part of our team, you will collaborate closely with directors, animators, and technical artists from around the world.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5.4, specifically for linear content workflows (not gameplay).
  • Strong understanding of Sequencer and additive animation workflows.
  • Experience working with Metahumans, including:
    • **Control Rig for body and fingers
    • MHAnimator / Faceboard Ctrl Rig for facial performance
  • Familiarity with Perforce for version control and collaborating in large-scale projects.
  • Comfortable working in heavy scenes (recommend 12GB+ VRAM GPU for optimal performance + 16GB of RAM).

Animation Experience

  • A solid understanding of animation principles.
  • Proven ability to perform mocap cleanup that preserves the integrity and nuance of high-quality data.
  • Skilled at:
    • Fixing jerks, pops, and penetrations
    • Cleaning and adjusting hand poses and finger animation
    • Good understanding/criteria for adjusting eye and head direction, as well as mouth/lips/teeth poses.
    • Using additive layers cleanly and efficiently
  • Ability to judge the root of the issue to fix and decide when to:
    • Use additive blending for fixes
    • Edit directly in the backward solved base layer
  • Ability to address notes without losing Performance nuances.

Collaboration & Workflow

  • Able to work independently while respecting team conventions and Creative direction.
  • Excellent naming and versioning discipline to maintain clarity in collaborative pipelines.
  • Strong written communication skills — must deliver work updates, notes, and status via internal channels.
  • Experience working with with reference footage when needed to match performance nuance.
  • Ability to follow precise naming, versioning, and review protocols already in place.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience in Feature Films / VFX / AAA Cinematics.
  • Prior work with facial cleanup and polish on Metahumans is a plus.
