I’m encountering a strange issue with exporting a high-poly model to an external baker. The programs in my pipeline are RC → Substance Designer.
Substance Designer gives me an error message that the exported model as FBX (2020) doesn’t have vertex color information. This shouldn’t be the case, as I “colored” it in RC before exporting it as an FBX. I used the default export settings, with Vertex Colors and Vertex Normals turned on. Interestingly, in Blender, vertex color information doesn’t show up initially either. I have to activate it via Shading → Color Attribute.
When I export the model through Blender, the baker does find the vertex color data and can bake normally.
This isn’t exactly an ideal workflow, right? Currently, the workflow is RC → Export → Blender → Vertex Color correction → Export → Substance Designer → Baking.
It’s possible I may have missed a setting in RC, but after troubleshooting, I believe everything is set up correctly. Where could the problem be?
