High quality sky & clouds for cinematics?

Hello guys,

I am using UE for cinematics.

I was wondering what is considered the “standard” way for creating realistic sky atmospheres and high quality clouds.
I have found some assets in the UE marketplace (e.g. Ultra Dynamic Sky) but I am not sure about their visual quality since they are mostly intended for game development.

Please, if anyone can chime in it will help me massively.

Thanks!

I have bought UDS and it looks good, sometimes I think it’s even too much for games  (It’s not so light and pretty realistic)

Thanks for the suggestion, but from the youtube videos I saw I don’t think that’s what I am looking for (even though it’s pretty awesome)

I had something like this in mind (from ASC’s THE EYE: CALANTHEK, a very nice UE short film)

For cinematics you can use the epic made trash.
Its trash because it performs about as well as a 9mm to the knee, not because it looks bad or works badly. Well ok. It also works badly at times. Its epic. Ofc.

Try the latest decent engine - 4.27 - with sky athmosphere and volumetric clouds.

You get about 1fps maybe, but the cinematic can render 1 frame at a time and play back at the desired play rate, so it should really not matter one bit how bad it makes performance.

If you have the power (3090 or 4090), instead of getitng the stock engine get yourself a pull from the Nvidia managed ray traced branch.

If you were to need it for games, that’s a whole different pair of hands really, but since you don’t… the custom ray traced branch is what is used in most professional cinematography output - at least for modern day shows.

I don’t think anyone sane would use 5 - but its hollywood. How many sane can there be?
