Hello
Not long time ago I decided to work at own game using UE4 (like everyone here)
So I bought better PC for recommended Hardware which is delivered to my house.
Spec:
1TB HDD Drive
Power Supply - 650 W
CPU Model - AMD Ryzen 2700 8 Cores/16MB
Motherboard - Socket AM4
CPU Clock - 3.2 GHz - 4.1GHz Turbo (with water cooling)
RAM - 32GB DDR4 (2666MHz)
GPU - Radeon RX 570 8GB
So this is good for developing open world maps with 4-8K Textures on High or Cinematics settings?
Or I need powerful Workstation?
It’s very good, but you need an SSD for it to load much faster and 1 TB could be too little space for the whole project, if you want to use your computer not only for UE4.
You need to think of the many high poly 3d assets, the >4k textures, backups and perhaps one or two builds from source code you will want to work with (one source code project needs ~100 GB alone). That all takes up much space on your hard disk.
Get a 1tb nvme ssd but make sure you get the fastest one you can afford. Use that as your unreal drive and use a standard 500gb ssd for the system drive (C:) Doing this will make everything load fairly instant. It’s all about getting the fastest drive you can for the engine and assets. The loading and unloading of massive assets is going to bottleneck at the storage every time so if you want the best experience go all out on the drive.
For the record I use a ryzen 1700X 16gb 3000Mhz ram and a radeon RX580 8Gb card in this rig and it’s plenty for this. Just gotta have a blazing drive that can keep up.
