High detail failed- now project won't open

Successfully processed a small job (423 images) at normal detail and output using the new Sketchfab output- This worked fine (although there was an error at end of Sketchfab upload saying something like “no response from sketchfab”).
Output is here:

I thought I would try and run same job at high detail- left it overnight to run, checked it after a few hours and it was running ok about a third way thru. However this morning when I check it- has obviously failed. Now I can’t open same project at all- get a windows error saying RC is not responding. Is there anyway I can get this project to open again- I don’t want to have to start from scratch as it took a long time to align all my GCPs.
Thanks.

Hi peterwatson
Very unusual behaviour, when you try to open it, do you see any disk activity? If you wait say 10-15 minutes, it still cannot open it ??

Don’t notice any disk activity( but running off SSD)- Error comes up almost instantly upon trying to open project.

Have submitted crash report. Wondering if there’s any way to repair a project, or copy working models into a new project or clean faulty files from project directories? Waiting 30-40mins doesn’t help, nor does a reboot. Just won’t open anymore.

Hi peterwatson
Please try to clear cache before you open the project. WORKFLOW->SETTINGS->CLEAR CACHE button.

No. Doesn’t help… still get same error. Cannot open!

Hi peterwatson
Send us the RCPROJ and images so that we can take a look at this…

OK.

.rcproj file is 41kb, however all images are >2GB. Even zipped is huge file- how can I upload this to you?

Wishgranter, did anyone get a chance to have a look at files I posted? Or any ideas how i can rebuild this project, or do i need to start project again from scratch?

ahhh, never-mind. 45minutes and half a bottle of wine later and I’m back with all GCPs located in images.

I guess the lesson for me here is to save projects frequently and to “save as” projects (named differently) not over-write same project- in case of failure I can revert to previous save.

Couple of other things to note:

  • seems there is a maximum of 61 images that you can locate a GCP in. Any more than this and they are not registered in control point list. (also cannot delete or modify any that you place that are over #61)- is there a reason behind this number?
  • gee it would be good to have a “filter images by GCP” function once you’ve located GCP in a couple of images!!

Hi peterwatson

So you send me the sample dataset that you cannot open… but i see there ONLY the RC BC161104a.rcproj file and MISSING the rcproj FOLDER BC161104a with all the project data…

please check if you have consistent data structure…

a side question - are you trying to place the GCPs in ALL images that contain the GCPs ? it is not a requirement, in most cases it is enough to have say 5-10 projections per a GCP… adding more will NOT improve results significantly…
