Hey guys what should i learn before using unreal engine 4

unreal engine 5 doesn’t work on my PC, I wanna make games using unreal 4, what do I need to learn to make a game using unreal 4 and is it late to start game development right now?

Dive straight in. You don’t need to learn anything first, learn it as you go. UE4 will be around for quite a while yet…

Just like @ClockworkOcean said, simply learn as you go. If you don’t know how to do something, just watch a tutorial on how to do it or search it up here.

then after a while of watching tutorials, you will have learned how to do a lot of stuff on your own that you can apply to other things.

There are certainly a huge number of skills that are very useful going into Unreal, but I agree with everyone else so far: jump in. There are far too many skillsets that are handy in Unreal to try to learn them all and be proficient before using Unreal. You’ll figure out what things you need pretty quick, depending on your project, and most of those things can be done in Unreal. There are a ton of great tutorials out there, many of which are accessible through Unreal Learning.

That depends largely on your game making goals.
From my own (failed) experience and (long time) frustrated attempt to make a video game when OpenGL 2.1 was under the spotlight, I’d say:

  1. learn how to make assets; by assets I mean pretty much everything characters, environments, textures, music, sound effects, visual effects, gameplay, etc. that’s usually expected by players when playing a game.
  2. While handling (1), if you feel the need for references, inspiration or a starting point, check available assets in marketplaces like Epic’s.
  3. Although I agree that using 3rd party assets are great when starting, unless you’re into “Frankenstein” game development, at some point you’ll have to make your own assets or, at the very least, get someone/form team to help with it.

Last thing I can say is, unless you’re among the two or three geniuses that get born every generation, remember that there is no shame whatsoever in asking for help at all.
That’s my view on the topic.
Bye and success on your learning/game making.
