HeroTPP skeleton and retargetting for 3rd P Mannequin animation use

Hi Everybody,
I come here after one week tries-error to use the HeroTPP character from UnrealTournament 4 (located here:L:\Epic Games\UnrealTournamentEditor\UnrealTournament\Content\RestrictedAssets\Proto\TempCharacter\Characters) with the Epic Mannequin animations.

As the HeroTPP skeleton looks not compatible for a usual skeleton retargetting I’ve replaced the original HeroTPP skeleton with the mannequin skeleton and reskinned the character in Maya. I’ve just some basic knowledge in rigging and skinning.

I have 2 main issues:
A first related to the twist bones, when I try to change the skinning the mesh will going totally crazy.
I have removed these bones from the skinning.

After importing in UE 4 and retargetting I’m totally unable to get the expected animation at the forearm and hand level

Comment: With the twist bones present or not as well as the ik bones I get the same issue.

If someone can help to get the righr retargetting I would be extremely grateful.

Supplementary questions:

 How works the twist bones (or joints)
 Did I need the ik bones (which I have removed)

Hi everybody

Finally I found a solution (2pm in the morning)

To do my conversion I had in mind to use the skeleton from the FBX file I got from the 3D app and retarget the animations in UE 4. Reaffecting the EPIC mannequin skeleton directly in the import panel will solve my problem.

It looks that the retargeting process has in my case some issues.

So my work sequence was:

1 Export HeroTPP and Mannequin
2 Import bot in 3D app
3 remove all bindins and skinning
4 remove mannequin mesh and HeroTPP skeleton
5 I suggest strongly to clean and correct the HeroTPP mesh (there some unconnected polygons
6 postion the mannequin skeleton joints to fit with the HeroTPP mesh
7 Bind the skeleton to the Hero TPP mesh
8 verify the skinning and if needed recorrect
9 export FBX
10 import in UE 4 with mannequin skeleton reaffecting

May be someone can publish a shorter sequece.
