Somers-class destroyer [1] was a class 1 destroyer built by the United States in the 1930s.
This class of destroyers is an enlarged and modified version of the "Ridley" class to carry the dual 127mm main gun once used in the "Porter" class, and to install more anti-aircraft weapons. Unfortunately, several destroyers of this class did not make much difference in World War II.
Somos, the first ship of the class, was commenced construction on 27 June 1935, launched on 13 March 1937, and commissioned on 1 December 1937 as DD-381 [2].
