help with Mac

The download process was painful.
Now, finding how to merely open the “app” is painful.
My download took about 40 minutes.
Unreal Engine NOT and APP
There is no desktop icon
how to do you open the app and get started, thanks.

Did you download the Epic Games Launcher?

I have a Macbook, though I don’t use it for UE dev, I can run it with no issues.

I did download Epic Games Launcher, when I opened it, at 1st nothing happened. Honestly I dont even know how I got it to download but have a folder on an external HD that is 51 GIG. I still cant figure out where the “app” is, this is becoming hilarious. What’s gonna happen when I have 100 questions about Blender files importing into UE 5.

I’m no expert with Macs, as I use PC for UE dev, but if you installed the Launcher or the engine on different drives, especially external, then that could cause issues.

My Macbook is old so it’s really slow at compiling shaders, reaaaaaally sloooooow! And UE5 compiles quite a few shaders even just firing up the engine, before you even create your project. So that is another possible cause.

Milisours - yup only had 50 FREE gig on my Mac mini, so had no option but to install on an external. SSD is SOLDERED to the motherboard so no options to upgrade memory.

Can I buy a $299 PC mini with 1TB HD and use that to install UE

Did you check the minimum specs to run the engine ? I know my Unreal installation took 60 gigas of my hard drive .

You can reduce the install size by deselecting things you don’t need. For example you could deselect all the platforms and then add the ones you need when you are ready to build.

Also, this old post may have a solution for you:
