Help with foliage with reaction

I have tried so many youtube with foliage and having reaction on it and I always get stuck on the part where a sphere is place into the level and for me nothing happens.

This Image is what I have (connected to world position offset), I have Generate Mesh Distance Fields ticked in project settings.

What am I doing Wrong?

Any help is appreciated, thank you

I would try setting the params to something useable

also max to 20 or so?

Tried this, didn’t work. But thanks for trying

Try this

I think your main error was using a minus rather than divide in the first step. I don’t know what the original line of thinking was, but I also thought that multiplying the vertex normal was the way to go, not adding ( adding will give you stretching on one side ).

As well as having MDF enable in the project settings, you need it turned off on the foliage mesh, and the floor ( in my case ), and the foliage mesh needs enough poly to be able to displace properly. This is two default spheres. The left one has distance fields enabled ( default ), the right not. The right one has the material

I tried your nodes but still nothing, plugged everything in, reimported the mesh with plenty of vertexs, checked MDF through out. The only thing I wouldn’t able to do was check the MDF on the landscape, don’t know how to do that, and still the foilage will not move.

I don’t know If checking the landscape for MDF will work, or if im importing the mesh wrong. If you have any idea I would appreciate. And thank you for all the help you have given.

Try it in a fresh level with just a mesh floor, come back to the landscape later.

Watch out though, MDF has to be OFF on everything except the moving sphere ( so floor and other mesh ).

You can also try plugging this bit

directly into the color, you should see black and white values where the mesh is trying to move.

-Tried on a new level

-Make sure that check the MDF is unchecked on floor mesh and grass mesh

-checked on for sphere

-tryed on a new material too

-and I pluged the saturate to the base color, the whole grass mesh turned black(no white). Tryed mess with the values on the radius, nothing changed. I don’t know If that means something?

Let’s go back to basics. This material

should give you this

DF3

Right hand sphere and floor have ‘affect distance fields’ disabled

  • Change the material to how you have it, mesh is still completely black, change the divide number to .1 and 1000, no change. Tryed it on different mesh,my grass, cube and sphere, still nothing.
  • Check and unchecked ‘affect distance fields’ on everything, mix and match trying one with another, still no change.

Ok, last thing. Try this simple material in a new project. I have seen a very small number of cases where that helps.

PS The preview of the simple material should look like this

I tryed a new project with all yhe materials we chatted about, nothing. Complete black. I’ll have to change my project around, I’ve tryed everything now. But Thank you for everything.

Also any chance you know how to make a blueprint that when the player enter it would move?

If you thats ok. And thanks again
