Help on my pc build for UE5

I am going to upgrade my PC and I have some doubts about which components to buy, my idea is to do it with components 100% focused on optimizing the performance of UE5.

Common components:
B650 motherboard
RAM. 64GB ddr5 6000Mhz
Power supply: 750W 80+ Bronze

I HAVE 2 MAIN OPTIONS, ADJUSTED TO THE BUDGET I HAVE.

Option 1:
CPU: Ryzen 9 7900X (400€ currently)
GPU: RTX 4060 ti 16GB Vram(500€ currently)

option 2:

CPU: Ryzen 9 7950X (580€)
GPu RTX 3060 12GB Vram (330€)

My question is: if the difference between the 9 7900x and the 9 7950x is important enough for me to spend more on the processor so I’ll have to buy a lower quality GPU or there is not as much difference as there is in price (200€) and it is better to invest this 200€ in improving the gpu to buy the 4060 ti 16gb instead of the 3060 12GB.

If someone could help me, I am quite undecided because i saw that for UE5, CPU is more important that GPU but in this case i think is more worth it the upgrade from 3060 12GB to 4060ti 16GB than the upgrade from 9 7900x to 97950x. Always thinking that it is 100% focused on optimizing performance of unreal, for the games I play in my spare time is more than enough with any option.

PS: I know that you would recommend me to invest a little more and go for the 4070 but currently in my country the price of the 4070 is around 700€ and I can’t afford it, with the 4060 ti I’m going to the limit.

No idea on the CPU but on the GPU I’d almost always go with the more advanced chipset, especially since newer features (DLSS, etc) are very-likely going to be on the later hardware. EG: features/stuff that might come out tomorrow is less-likely to run on the older card.

Plus, it’s a TI-version so it’s just-better all-around.

The most important is to have a very fast very big SSD, or it wont matter what graphics card you have as Nanite relies on fastest largest SSD any HARD disk WONT WORK.

I am still using GTX 1xxx so an RTX with biggest VRAM is the most important

oh there are loads of cheap 4070, because the 4070 Ti so looks for the Ti on 24 January 2024. So suppliers are dumping basic 4070 before the new Ti as its cheaper! than most cards as the inflated Bit Coin generation prices have ended

Hopefully you mean hard-drive? I know it’s all ‘memory’ (space) but to confirm we’re not talking RAM?

Assuming ‘yes’, the M2 is the speediest, followed by SSDs then the olde platter-drives.

Your SSD is a surely a step up from the platter-drive but an M2 is another step past that. Your existing drive is good-enough, but PS5 and the latest generation will all be working off M2 (NVME) drives. Generally speaking, M2 drives will be faster in I/O which is what streaming is going to be most affected by (faster is better here).

For storage, always try to choose an M.2 NVMe SSD with higher read/write speeds. I’m using the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB. You can check this if you have the budget. If you have a tight budget, then you can look for Crucial ones.

I have the same drive. It’s an early version of what’s out today, but it still flies.

Yes sorry i mean hard drive.

But i figure out now that i had installed de UE 5.1 in mi hard disc conected via USB(Toshiba 1TB).

If i had installed in Hard disc i sense that UE5 it doesn’t work with the SSD, right?

And when it comes to the GPU, the 4060 Ti would be a preferable choice over the vanilla 3060. This decision offers advantages in terms of increased VRAM and more CUDA cores.

Unreal will run from wherever: it’s just a program.

The issue that is being highlighted here is the performance between the disk-storage and the rest of the machine. For any kind of streaming assets you will want the best performance; streaming loads data on-the-fly at runtime, so having a fast transfer speed for the harddisk is desirable.

If you are connected over a USB that is going to be very slow… Install to the local disk inside the machine.

Past that, faster is better. You will surely want for larger amounts of space just to hold assets, projects and the like. They can add up quickly! But for running applications, you will want to make sure you have fast I/O. This is where a) a local, installed disk and b) NVME would be ideal.

I cannot provide a suggestion regarding the CPU, as I am an Intel fan. Personally, I would opt for the i7-13700k or 14700k. And one of the most important considerations, regardless of whether you go with AMD or Intel, is to invest in a high-quality liquid cooler for the CPU.

Many CPU’s don’t require them. I’m on a devil’s canyon OC’d from 3.5 to 4.9Ghz, just on air.

@OP → IMHO, an aftermarket cooler should be fine, you likely won’t need liquid unless you’re really going to max-out (overclock) the components.

So you recomend me to buy a M.2 NVMe SSD and then install the UE5 there no?.

I installed it on my hard drive because I had no more space on my ssd.
But if I buy a new one I will have enough space to install the UE5 there.

Yes, that’s true. But AMD CPUs tend to generate more heat. Especially for CPUs like the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, it is essential to have a reliable liquid cooler.

G2know, thanks!!! I know the devils canyon itself was a bit of a sweet-spot, but always run one of those big-honkin’ airfoil stacks; seems to do it.

@Nahuitron → the M.2 would be fastest, for anything, including your OS. If you do buy one, you might want to make it your main-HDD. Install both there if you can. Keep your old one to throw things you download from the Epic store. They have monthly freebies and an ever-expanding library of free-forever; it’s actually almost TOO much, but you will still likely want to grab things here and there and will want for space.

Option 1 is better than option 2 I would think.
Also, get a high-quality M.2 drive as your system/engine/main drive, 2 TB or larger.
