[HELP!] Launcher does not recognize engine install or project

I bought a new computer and transferred my engine and project files into it. However, the launcher won’t recognize it. What can I do?

Here is an image of my Epic Games folder, which matches the one on my other PC, same files 1:1.

Deleting my engine files and doing a fresh install might work, but then I’ll lose all my settings, preferences, and specific installation versions of the plugins. The project still won’t appear even if I do that.

Please help me. And a humble thanks for the replies ahead of time.

I think it is sort of ok to install fresh and then overwrite your files at the destination folder. It must be same release though.

I tried this, and unfortunately it has the same result as directly dropping them without installing. The launcher does not recognize the engine for some reason…

I think the only thing you will miss from a fresh install are the Editor preferences. The plugins are installed per project along with engine settings. The project file contains the plugin version and most of the plugins match engine releases, so it is a no loss for you.

I re-installed the engine, that seems to work, even if I lost all my settings. But my project still won’t appear, even after opening it via the uproject file. :sob:

As it turns out, the launcher configuration file was entirely missing the CreatedProjectPaths param. Adding the default project directory by hand fixed the issue. How does such a thing even happen?

These mind-boggling bugs are rather depressing in their frequency. I’m glad they are solvable, at least.
