HDR workflow using 16 bit TIFF

Hi, we are trying to move to a HDR workflow using 16 bit TIFF source images output from lightroom coming from Sony Alpha cameras.

We know that RC gives you the option to convert TIFF’s to 8 bit JPG on import for processing - and then use the 16 bit TIFF’s from texture generation (to save on processing time)

Is there any advantage at all in using the 16 bit TIFF’s for processing to create the model in high detail - if processing time is not a issue ?

I see a lot of questions and discussions around this but no real answers as to if the extra 16 bit image data helps to create better point clouds.

Hello,

there is no benefit in using the 16bit TIFFs for alignment or reconstruction. All images are internally transformed into 8bits.
The only benefit of using 16bit TIFFs is for texturing.
