Having too much fun with the Sequencer

We put together a trailer for an ant colony management game using the Unreal Sequencer to record in-game events (some played, some scripted).

It was a bit fiddly at times but the crazy camera movements we were able to get were worth it. We even managed to get a subtle contra-zoom at the start of the great battle… walking the dangerous line between “cool” and “tacky”.

It’s not perfect, and there are some odd things you can do to crash it (like selecting keyframes for lens settings and position at the same time), it also has a habit of suddenly abandoning keyframed focal settings but they come back when you restart. Still, great results in the end.
