Has anyone used Mixamo's Fuse?

Yes, But you need to go through their site

Fuse is on sale at Steam again (75% off) and is currently v1.3. Should I buy it?

Also, can I use animations from the marketplace to retarget on Fuse characters?

Fuse models need to be rigged and this cost money if you don’t have one of there packages $250 and up !
I used Fuse with Unity3d and the quality of the characters when imported was not the same as it is in Fuse.

I found this forum post maybe it helps as a low cost alternative? https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?51054-Super-Simple-Tutorial-Basic-City-Crowd-quot-System-quot&highlight=city

You can get it rigged on the website for free, and download two animations per week for free, if you own Fuse. You don’t have to pay a subscription for this.

I’d say this is a steal.

I have Fuse and I’ve found it’s a great way to generate human figures. If it is 75% off, I’d say get it quick.

on another note yes Fuse costs money grab it while its on offer , yes you can’t do everything with it BUT you can re-target anims in UE4 now, they even show how to re-target the anims from the free Epic anim starter pack to mixamo/fuse characters , i’ve tried it with a fuse character and it works, to put things right in my knowledge with the basic Fuse program you can “auto-rig” 2 characters a week for free , this can be a drawback if you don’t check the settings before you upload your character .

as also mentioned somewhere they are working on a “Epic” rig option , so that you won’t have to re-target any anims from Epic or from the market place, so unless you need to quality characters it well worth it when on sale.

btw i’m going to use some fuse characters in an android game i’m making, already had some issues but there the sort of things that happen when a program try’s to cover all bases

If you are just after animations, free mocap data + IKinema seems like a better way than fuse. Being procedural, the animations wont be the same across two games using the same middleware.

They have removed the two auto-rig characters a week for free limit and is on sale on Steam (23,24€), do you think worth the money?

yes it is worth it, even if your just using the characters to prototype your game, plus you can have some fun with it

Thank for the feedback.

Yes, go for it. It’s a very efficient way of cranking out a ton of character models and it works with the Epic skeleton. I’ve found it to be pretty much a no-brainer.

I use Fuse and Mixamo in my UE4 game, cross compatibility with the epic skeleton is awesome and in terms of affordable animation, it’s great. The $150/m plan is expensive for a hobbyist, but it’s one of the first things I intend to purchase when I get my funding in order for an indie project. It’s a great resource for people in the “we’re not really a studio yet but have a few thousand dollars” category.

Help me understand, I have to do a subscription after buying Fuse? Or i can use Fuse only for create character and animate it in Maya without problem?

I’m a solo developer and i am really at beginning of game development. I can’t deal with a subscription plan :frowning:

Oh wow that is nice to know. i actually stopped using it because the limitation on auto rigged characters was annoying.

I plan on eventually getting the $1500/year subscription (For the unlimited character / animations), download everything, and then cancel… even as a per year subscription, $1500 is ALOT of money for me, and I need to plan financials accordingly as I’m one of those paycheck to paycheck people (until my student loans are done).

Even if the characters and animations are stock, it provides a good start for rapid prototyping and alpha / preview releases.

You do not need to get a subscription after buying Fuse.

Just to give you an idea of how I work with it. I designed a character (it took about 5-10 mins), and noticed the boots I had picked were poking through the trousers. I exported it to Blender, got rid of the clipping, imported it back into Fuse, changed some colours, and then uploaded it to the Mixamo website for auto-rigging. I downloaded it, and stuck it in my game.

Done.

Thank for clarification and example, seems Fuse is what i looking for fast prototype character modelling and rigging and the price is cheap, it’s a go for me, bought

I’ve just had a look on Steam.

a) Wow, they’ve bought down the price massively. That’s great!
b) The remodelling options are even better than they were when I bought v1.2, now it’s v1.3, (with all the extra content upgraded for free) there seems to be a lot more you can do with it.
c) They’ve got Tesla Dev’s YouTube tutorials on the site.

Ha, was not expecting this thread to zombie back  It’s been a while since 1.3 came out as we had focus everything into making major changes to our website (new framework, speed increases, plugin-free 3d viewer; more info on that here), but we’re back on the Fuse track and you should expect the automatic update to 1.4 mid July. Here’s a ctrlC ctrlV of our roadmap post:

If you guys and gals are digging Fuse we would really appreciate reviews; obviously we got creamed in the first few releases, but I think we’ve been going in the right direction the last few updates

\m/

I never understood why. People got really confused about premium animations for no good reason. shrug
