Has anyone figured out how to add a character to the Game Animation Sample Project in UE 5.8?

I’ve been trying to add a custom Metahuman character to the Game Animation Sample Project in UE 5.8 but I can’t find any documentation. If you have done, please share some light.

Thanks.

The sample doesn’t animate your MetaHuman directly; it animates the hidden UEFN mannequin and copies the pose onto the MetaHuman via runtime retargeting. So the steps are:

1. Import your MetaHuman (5.8: MetaHuman Creator / Fab export) into the GASP project.

2. Open the sample’s character Blueprint (SandboxCharacter_Mover or _CMC). Keep the existing Mesh component as the animated source; set it to not visible (but keep “Visibility Based Anim Tick Option” = Always Tick Pose and Refresh Bones).

3. Add your MetaHuman parts as child components of that Mesh: Body plus Face/Torso/Legs/Feet. Easiest is to copy the component layout from one of the sample’s MetaHuman visual-override Blueprints.

4. On the Body: Anim Class = ABP_GenericRetarget, add Component Tag RTG_UEFN_to_Metahuman (the tag picks the retargeter from the map in that ABP; pick the variant matching your body type, e.g. _nrw / _tal).

5. For Face/clothing, use Leader Pose (Set Leader Pose Component to Body) or the MetaHuman face post-process ABP.

6. Compile and PIE. If proportions look off, adjust the retarget chains in the matching RTG asset rather than the animations.
