Halt and resume

Hi, is there a possibility to pause the calculation during any kind of computation (alignment, preview, normal detail, high detailed…), save the point, close the program and later on resume the calculation from where it was halted?

I’m just testing this app to see if it’s feasible for the work I’ll have to do and I have to say, it’s pretty amazing for now.
I’m testing it on an amazon ec2 g2.x8large and I was wondering if I could use the spot instances to save money on very large computations that do not require very fast output.
Amazon sends a 2 min warning before the spots gets terminated, so I could have all the time needed to catch the warning, send a halt and save command, and resume the calculation on next boot.

is there already something like that or would that be a new feature? :ugeek:
thank you!

dose licensing work ok with aws?

I would have thought you’d have to wait for a while between sessions to move license.

+1 it would be nice for very long local reconstructions too.

I think the license will only work on the intended instance and nowhere else.
Anyway I do not have any PC with nvidia GPU, so using amazon ec2 will be cheaper (and a lot faster) for a long time compared to upgrading a pc for that.
I’m ok with using it only on the cloud.

don’t you need to wait a week between changing though?

so i guess you would need to either keep paying for amazon while not using it. or wait a week until you can start up a new instance.

Hi, sorry for the late response.
EC2 instances can be stopped and the billing stops accordingly.
You can then start them when you prefer and nothing will change, it’s like a poweroff and then a new start of your own computer, so if you license your ec2 instance and use only that for the computation, there’s absolutely no problem.
You don’t have to pay anything while the instance is stopped, except for the storage that has to remain available (EBS is very cheap, .1$ per gb per month, and under 30GB for the first year you pay nothing).
